“When asked why they hassled women, most of the men responded that harassment alleviated boredom, was ‘“fun,” and gave them a feeling of camaraderie with other men; many added, defensively, that it didn’t hurt anybody. Some said it was intended as a compliment. Twenty percent said they would not engage in the behavior alone but only did so when they were in groups of men - a finding that supports a “male-bonding” explanation of harassment of demonstrating solidarity and mutual power. A minority, approximately fifteen percent, who were also the group that employed the most graphic commentary and threats, said explicitly that they intended to anger or humiliate their victims.”—

YA Mythology High Trilogy Looking for Reviewers. It Could Be You!
Buzz Books USA has signed Mookychick editor Magda Knight to a YA high school trilogy featuring Celtic myth. Mean Girls, here we come…
CALLING ALL TUMBLRS
We are looking for as many reviewers as possible!
Do you have a Tumblr/Blog? Do you read Young Adult fiction? Do you like it with an edge? Would you like to review the first short story in the trilogy, SEAL GIRL? If so, just email firstname.lastname@example.org. They’ll be thrilled to hear from you!
Ondine is the new girl at school. With her red hair, Irish accent, champion swimming skills and fused-together hands from a birth defect, she’s used to sticking out like a sore thumb. She tells herself she simply doesn’t care. Like the mythical seal girls, the selkies who swim in the cold Atlantic, Ondine wants to be a free spirit for the rest of her life. But then someone close to her starts to play dirty, and she’s all out of choices…
Coleen isn’t just a geek. That’s like saying Bill Gates earns a tiny bit more than some girl scout selling cookies door to door. Coleen is a talented high school hacker who can make any machine dance to her tune, including the security systems of the US government. So she’s not happy when someone tries to make her secret hacker identity public. See, that’s not a case of getting grounded - that’s prison. She’s even less thrilled when her best friend starts mooning over a new guy at school. A guy who’s perfect on the surface but weird and possibly dangerous once you start digging into the code…
Megan is blessed with a voice so unique that everyone around her is more inclined to think it’s a curse. It’s getting so bad they’re saying it to her face. Her only dream is to get into Glee Club, but as her astonishing vocal talents lead to friction, frienemies and a series of near-lethal accidents she may have to seriously rethink her options…
Happy International Women's Day! A big ranty message from the Mookychick Editor xxx
Mookychick editor Magda Knight here. Happy International Women’s Day.
Yeah, so the thing is… this day is symbolically one of the most important dates in the Mookychick calendar. Which is great. But neither I nor Mookychick Central had the time to offer inspirational quotes or tweets or articles or share with the community at large or do anything in any feminist capacity whatsoever… because I and the other women who make up 90% of the staff in my day job office were WORKING OUR FUCKING NUTS OFF AND SCREWING THEM TO THE WALL BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT IT TOOK TO GET THE JOB DONE.
Same as we do EVERY DAY.
So unfortunately I didn’t get to participate in or appreciate IWD, even in a quick browse on Facebook or Twitter or whatever. So maybe I feel like I’ve let all our feminist Mooks down but utterly failing to put across any inspirational message whatsoever.
The only thing I did today was work really hard, same as all the other women around me. So, this year, IWD is a nod to the women in our office. Great bosses, awesome soldiers. To any women out there who work their guts out with everything on the line, here’s Bulletproof by A3. Ladies, this one’s for you.
